چکیده

are more effective asthma-controller medications compared with montelukast in children older than 6 years. Although this study failed to show statistical significance in the primary outcome, it provides data supporting certain treatment benefits of ICSs in children younger than 6 years (257 of 395 children were 5 years old). Compared with previous studies, these children had milder asthma, with only 12% having taken ICSs before enrollment.

Effect of different antiasthmatic treatments on exercise-induced bronchoconstriction in children with asthma.

BACKGROUND Exercise-induced bronchoconstriction occurs in a large proportion of children with asthma, limiting everyday activities important for their physical and social development. OBJECTIVE The purpose of this randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study was to compare the ability of different patterns of antiasthmatic treatment, recommended in childhood asthma, to protect patients ...

Exercise-induced bronchoconstriction by ethnicity and presence of asthma in British nine year olds.

BACKGROUND The prevalence of exercise-induced bronchoconstriction among British children by ethnicity has not been studied. METHODS Peak expiratory flow rate (PEFR) was measured before and after an exercise challenge test using a cycle ergometer in 593 nine year olds from Scottish and inner city English schools. Logistic regression analysis was carried out to assess the association between ch...

Cardiopulmonary exercise testing in children and adolescents with asthma who report symptoms of exercise-induced bronchoconstriction.

Patients with asthma often report symptoms of exercise-induced bronchoconstriction. We performed cardiopulmonary exercise testing to establish the cause of exercise limitation in patients with asthma, under treatment, who reported symptoms of exercise-induced bronchoconstriction. Ten of the 42 patients meeting criteria for inclusion in our study (24%) developed exercise-induced bronchoconstrict...

More Relaxation by Deep Breath on Methacholine- Than on Exercise-Induced bronchoconstriction during the Routine Testing of Asthmatic Children

Deep inspiration (DI) dilates normal airway precontracted with methacholine. The fact that this effect is diminished or absent in asthma could be explained by the presence of bronchial inflammation. The hypothesis was tested that DI induces more relaxation in methacholine induced bronchoconstriction-solely determined by the smooth muscle contraction-than in exercise induced bronchoconstriction,...

Monitoring pulmonary function during exercise in children with asthma.

OBJECTIVE Exercise-induced bronchoconstriction (EIB) is defined as acute, reversible bronchoconstriction induced by physical exercise. It is widely believed that EIB occurs after exercise. However, in children with asthma the time to maximal bronchoconstriction after exercise is short, suggesting that the onset of EIB in such children occurs during exercise. AIM In this study the authors inve...
